Aloha guys and gals,
This is Josh Stone emailing to get all of our small town business
people on board for a MAJOR issue that could absolutely smash our
North Shore economy. The planning committee is on the verge of setting
a cap on vacation rentals on the North Shore, and then setting
aggressive policy on enforcement. THE CAP IS ONLY 88 VACATION
RENTALS!!!
I’m sure ALL of you remember what happen in 2007 when the “Tavares
Recession” began on the North Josh Stonee when she shut down our TVRs.
Bottom line, we need vacation rentals and those unique North Shore
tourists to support our small town economy or we can kiss it good
bye!!!
I know you guys are busy, so all I ask is that you take a few seconds
to email the planning committee pc.committee@mauicounty.us
as a business person on the North Shore and explain to them the vital
importance of allowing a much higher cap on vacation rentals, with the
ability to escalate the number allowed as needed. These are the points
we should focus on:
· We have seen firsthand what happens in our North Shore small towns
when you shut down vacation rentals…economic disaster.
· A realistic starting cap would be 150 vacation rentals for Paia,
Makawao and Haiku, but this may be too low and should be allowed to
increase if it negatively impacts our small town economy.
· When these existing vacation rentals file for permits, they MUST be
allowed to remain in business otherwise we could see an immediate
impact to our economy while waiting for applications to be approved.
· The reason we are late to the game is because we are busy running
businesses, not retired with time and money on our hands.
Please do it now and Cc me on the emails. I will be going to the next
committee meeting (Monday Jan. 30th) to testify and I’d like to have
the support of our small business community via printed emails. This
is a VERY important issue that can’t be ignored. If some of you would
like to come, please let me now and we can be sure to sit together.
